Zimbabwe 294 and 4-121 (Tino Mawoyo 58, Hamilton Masakadza 44, Abdur Rehman 2-20) leads Pakistan 230 (Younis Khan 77, Khurram Manzoor 51, Brian Vitori 5-61, Tinashe Panyangara 3-43) by 185 runs.
The young left arm bowler of Zimbabwe, Brian Vitori, ripped through the perishable batting line up of Pakistan as Zimbabwe took a reasonable 1st innings lead.
Zimbabwe powered 294 in their first innings followed by 121 for the loss of four wickets in 50.2 overs. Pakistan was bowled out for 230 while availing 104.5 overs in their first innings.
The third day of the second Test finished on Thursday, September 12, 2013, at Harare Sports Club.
Earlier, the visitors started the day on a promising note at 3-163 in 68 overs whereas Younis Khan and Misbah-ul-Haq were batting at 52 and 27 runs respectively. They got off in a subdued manner by scoring just one run in the first five overs which resulted in an undue pressure. Both of them hit one four each and crept to 182 in 80.2 overs when Misbah-ul-Haq was gone for 33 off 120 balls with 4 boundaries. Asad Shafiq opened his account on the 15th delivery with a four and Younis Khan was playing a defensive innings at the other end.
The score went past the 200 runs mark in the 91st over while Asad Shafiq was clean bowled by Tendai Chatara for 10. Younis Khan surrendered just after lunch for 77 off 223 with 9 fours and that was the beginning of the disaster for the visitors. Brian Vitori never looked back from there and became unplayable for the Pakistani batsmen who were sent back to the dressing room for 230 in 104.5 overs.
Brian Vitori was the star performer with five wickets, Tinashe Panyangara held three whereas Tendai Chatara claimed one wicket.
Zimbabwe gained a valuable first innings lead of 64 runs but they lost the first wicket at 13. Hamilton Masakadza associated with Tino Mawoyo and they started the consolidation process with a few boundaries. They reached 65 after the first 25 overs with 3 fours from each batsman but most importantly they were firm at their ends. Mawoyo attained his third Test fifty in the 38th over with another four and the hundred of the innings was registered two overs later.
Tino Mawoyo was dropped at 52 behind the wickets by Adnan Akmal on the bowling of Abdur Rehman. He was finally declared leg before wicket off the same bowler for 58 from 165 balls with 7 fours. The second wicket fell at 117 in 48.6 overs and Hamilton Masakadza went back to the pavilion four runs later for 44 off 120 with 6 fours. Tinashe Panyangara could not score any run as the home side lost their fourth wicket at 121 in 50.2 overs when the play was called off for the day.
Rahat Ali and Abdur Rehman were the only successful bowlers with two wickets each.
Zimbabwe got an overall second innings lead of 185 runs and an addition of 100-125 runs to the total can put Pakistan in trouble.
