South Africa 6-280 (Quinton de Kock 106, Hashim Amla 100, Mohammed Shami 3-48) beat India 146 (Suresh Raina 36, Ravindra Jadeja 26, Lonwabo Tsotsobe 4-25, Dale Steyn 3-17) by 134 runs.
The strong batting line up of India surrendered against the fierce fast bowling of South Africa as the hosts won the consecutive game and the series.
The Proteas powered 280 runs for the loss of six wickets in the allocated 49 overs and the Men in Blue were bowled out for 146 mere runs with 83 balls to spare.
Quinton de Kock (South Africa) was announced ‘Player of the match’ for another hundred against the Blue Shirts.
The second One Day International of the three match series was played on Sunday, December 8, 2013, at Kingsmead, Durban.
Earlier, MS Dhoni, the skipper of India, won the toss and asked South Africa for batting. Hashim Amla along with Quinton de Kock started off slowly by scoring 38 runs in eight overs. The run rate was picked up later while de Kock reached his fifty in the 16th over and Amla attained his half century in the 24th one.
Quinton de Kock was the most aggressive of the two and smashed his third ODI hundred which was the second against the Blue Shirts. The opening partnership was broken at 194 in 35.1 overs when he lost his wicket for 106 runs. Hashim Amla, dispatched his 12th ODI ton and was gone for 100 runs in the 44th over. The incoming batsmen provided little contribution as the hosts piled up 280 with four wickets remaining in 49 overs.
Mohammed Shami was the highest wicket taker with three whereas Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja held one each.
India had a horrible beginning by losing their four top order batsmen for 34 runs. Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli were unable to open their accounts whereas Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane scored 19 and 8 runs. Suresh Raina and MS Dhoni crept to 74 when the latter became the fifth victim for 19 and was replaced by Ravindra Jadeja. Raina tried to accelerate the run rate but fell victim of Morne Morkel for 36. Jadeja managed 26 runs as the entire visiting side was sent back to the dressing room for 146 in 35.1 overs.
Lonwabo Tsotsobe was the star performer with four wickets, Dale Steyn got three, Morne Morkel two and Vernon Philander chipped in with one wicket.
South Africa triumphed in the second ODI by a huge margin of 134 runs and leads the series at 2-0.
