Pakistan 2-226 (Mohammad Hafeez 113*, Sohaib Maqsood 46*, Angelo Mathews 1-15) beat Sri Lanka 225 (Ashan Priyanjan 74, Kumar Sangakkara 51, Saeed Ajmal 4-39, Umar Gul 3-37) by eight wickets.
Mohammad Hafeez continued with his blistering form vs. Sri Lanka by dispatching his third hundred as Pakistan won the game and the series convincingly.
The Islanders were bowled out for 225 runs in 48.5 overs whereas the Green Shirts hammered 226 with eight wickets still in hand and 53 balls still available.
Mohammad Hafeez (Pakistan) was declared ‘Player of the match’ for his unbeaten sizzling 113 runs.
The fourth One Day International of the five match series was played on Wednesday, December 25, 2013, at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi.
Earlier, Angelo Mathews, the captain of the Islanders, won the toss and went into bat first. Umar Gul penetrated through the top order batting of the visitors by grabbing three early wickets at 36. The debutant, Ashan Priyanjan got together with Kumar Sangakkara, they kept on consolidating with regular boundaries and both of them attained their fifties in the 28th one.
The association was extended to 125 when Kumar Sangakkara was run out for 51and was replaced by Angelo Mathews.
Priyanjan continued with his aggressive knock but was clean bowled by Junaid Khan at 165 after scoring 74. Mathews kept on adding useful runs and became the seventh victim for 38 while Kithuruwan Vithanage contributed 27. The entire innings of the tourists was folded back for 225 with seven balls to spare.
Saeed Ajmal was the star performer with four wickets, Umar Gul held three whereas Junaid Khan got two wickets.
The Green Shirts lost their first wicket at 31 when Mohammad Hafeez joined in with Ahmaed Shehzad. The first was the most attacking of the two and dispatched boundaries at will whereas the latter kept on enhancing the score. Mohammad Hafeez completed his fifty on the 38th ball he faced and Ahmed Shehzad departed at 115 for 44.
Sohaib Maqsood walked in next and continued assisting his partner at his end. Mohammad Hafeez went past the 4000 runs in ODIs, thrashed his 9th limited overs century which was the third in the current series. He secured his end for 113 off 119 balls with 2 huge sixes and 12 fours, Sohaib Maqsood was at the other side at 46 as the hosts powered 2-226 in 41.1 overs.
Suranga Lakmal and Angelo Mathews were the only successful bowlers with one wicket each among the eight used by the skipper.
Pakistan grabbed the fourth ODI by a hefty margin of eight wickets and leads the series at 3-1.
