South Africa 500 (Jacques Kallis 115, AB de Villiers 74, Alviro Petersen 62, Ravindra Jadeja 6-138) and 0-59 (Alviro Petersen 31*, Graeme Smith 27*) beat India 334 (Murali Vijay 97, Cheteshwar pujara 70, Dale Steyn 6-100) and 223 (Ajinkya Rahane 96, Pujara 32, Robin Petersen 4-74) by ten wickets.

The strong batting line up of India once again crumbled against the deadly bowling of the Proteas in the second innings as the hosts won the 2nd Test easily.

The visitors scored 334 runs in their first innings and managed 223 in the second. The hosts hammered 500 in their first and achieved the minor target of 58 without losing any wicket in their second innings.

Dale Steyn (South Africa) was declared ‘Player of the match’ for his outstanding match figures of 9-147.

AB de Villiers (South Africa) was announced ‘Player of the series’ for his excellent batting and wicket keeping in two Tests.

The second and final Test of the series concluded on Monday, December 30, 2013, at Kingsmead, Durban.

Earlier, India went into bat in the morning at 2-68 after 36 overs whereas Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli were at the crease for 32 and 11. The latter was gone on the very first ball of the day and his partner departed without adding any run to his overnight score. Rohit Sharma along with Ajinkya Rahane tried to assemble the innings and took the score to 104 when the first departed for 25.

Rahane was the only batsman who defended the lethal rival bowling bravely whereas the wickets kept on crumbling at the other end. He reached his consecutive Test fifty just before lunch when the tourists were reeling at 7-173 in 68 overs. Ajinkya Rahane was the 10th batsman who went back to the dressing room for 96 as the entire Indian side was bowled out for 223 in 86 overs.

Robin Petersen was the chief wicket taker with four whereas Dale Steyn and Vernon Philander shared three each.

The Proteas required just 58 runs to win the Test and their second innings was opened by the skipper, Graeme Smith, along with Alviro Petersen. They took off nicely, hit the ball out of the fence frequently and scored 49 runs in 11 overs. Smith dispatched the winning four in the next one and remained unbeaten for 27. Petersen secured his end for 31 as the home side smashed 0-59 in 11.4 overs.

South Africa triumphed in the second Test by a huge margin of 10 wickets and grabbed the series 1-0. The game will be remembered by Jacques Kallis (since it was his goodbye one) and his supporters on a positive note.
