New Zealand 4-283 in 21 overs (Corey Anderson 131*, Jesse Ryder 104, Brendon McCullum 33, Jason Holder 2-48) beat West Indies 5-124 in 21 overs (Dwayne Bravo 56*, Narsingh Deonarine 29, Mitchell McClenaghan 2-7) by 159 runs.
The 23 year-old middle order batsman of New Zealand, Corey Anderson, broke the record of the fastest ODI hundred in the 3rd game vs. West Indies at Queenstown.
He created a new world record while blasting a century in 36 balls surpassing the previous one held by Shahid Afridi (Pakistan) who consumed 37 deliveries for his hundred against Sri Lanka on October 4,1996 in Nairobi.
The match was restricted to 21 overs a side due weather and the Black Caps powered 283 runs for the loss of just four wickets whereas the Caribbeans managed 5-124 mere runs.
Corey Anderson (New Zealand) was declared ‘Player of the match’ for his scintillating unbeaten knock of 131 off 47 deliveries.
The third One Day International of the five match series was played on Wednesday, January 1, 2014, at Queenstown Events Centre.
Earlier, Dwayne Bravo won the toss for the visitors and invited the home side to bat. The first wicket fell at five as the skipper of the Kiwis, Brendon McCullum, got together with Jesse Ryder. They took the score to 56 in 4.4 overs when the first was gone for 33 and Ross Taylor departed for just nine runs. Corey Anderson walked in next whereas Ryder got his fifty with a six on the 23rd ball.
The duo changed their gears, started punishing the rival bowlers at will and Anderson went past his fifty in the 13th over off Sunil Narine with 4 big sixes. He smashed four back to back sixes in the 15th over off Ravi Rampaul and plundered his maiden ODI century on the 36th ball which was a world record. Jesse Ryder kept on enhancing at the other end and achieved his third ODI hundred on the 46th ball. He was finally gone for 104 off 51 deliveries with 5 lofty sixes and 12 fours. Corey Anderson stood firm at his end for 131 off just 47 comprising 14 towering sixes and 6 fours as the hosts thrashed 4-283.
Jason Holder was the top wicket taker with two whereas Sunil Narine and Nikita Miller shared one each.
West Indies had a dismal beginning by losing three top order batsmen for 19 as Dwayne Bravo joined in with Chadwick Walton. The latter lost his wicket at 56 for 17 as Narsingh Deonarine walked in next while Bravo attained his 9th ODI half century. The score was enhanced to 112 when the first walked away for 29, Dwayne Bravo secured his end for 56 as the Windies reached 5-124.
Mitchell McClenaghan was the highest wicket taker with two whereas Kyle Mills, Jesse Ryder and James Neesham held one wicket each.
New Zealand clinched the third ODI by a huge margin of 159 runs levelled the series at 1-1.
