Sri Lanka 388 (Mahela Jayawardene 129, Kaushal Silva 95, Junaid Khan 3-102) and 1-137(Dimuth Karunaratne 62*, Silva 58, Saeed Ajmal 1-45) beat Pakistan 165 (Khurram Manzoor 73, Sarfraz Ahmed 24, Rangana Herath 3-26) and 359 (Misbah-ul-Haq 97, Younis Khan 77, Suranga Lakmal 4-78) by nine wickets.

The visiting Lankan Lions defeated the hosts, Pakistan, in the second Test in Dubai with  sheer determination and an excellent team work.

The Islanders piled up 388 runs in their first innings and achieved the easy target by smashing 1-137 in the second. The home batting surrendered for 165 in the first and scored 359 in the second innings.

Mahela Jayawardene (Sri Lanka) was announced ‘Player of the match’ for his classic hundred.

The second Test of the three game series concluded on Sunday, January 12, 2014, at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

Earlier, Pakistan went into bat at 7-330 after 123.3 overs whereas Sarfraz Ahmed and Saeed Ajmal were batting at 70 and 7 runs. The first was clean bowled for 74 by Suranga Lakmal and the tail was folded easily by the rival bowlers. Saeed Ajmal was gone for 21 and the entire team was bowled out for 359 in 137.3 overs.

Suranga Lakmal was the chief wicket taker with four whereas Nuwan Pradeep, Rangana Herath and Shaminda Eranga shared two wickets each.

The Lankan Lions were handed over a small target of 137 runs to win the game and their second innings was opened by Dimuth Karunaratne along with Kaushal Silva. They got off slowly by scoring 35 runs in the first 16 overs when the lunch break was taken. Silva was dropped at 24 by Asad Shafiq and his partner survived a review at 34. The duo kept on consolidating and the first reached his consecutive Test fifty in the 35th over while Karunaratne attained his third half century in the next one. The partnership was broken at 124 when Kaushal Silva was declared leg before wicket off Saeed Ajmal for 58. Dimuth Karunaratne remained unbeaten for 62 and Kumar Sangakkara was at the other end at 9 as the visitors powered 1-137 in 46.2 overs.

Sri Lanka triumphed in the second Test against Pakistan with a hefty margin of nine wickets and leads the series at 1-0.
