Kings XI Punjab116-3 (Shaun Marsh 64*, Adam Gilchrist 21, Rahul Sharma 1-17) beat Pune Warriors 115 all out (Mithun Manhas 31, Robin Uthappa 17, Dimitri Mascarenhas 5-25) by 7 wickets.

Dimitri Mascarenhas crushed the batting of Pune Warriors by grabbing five wickets as Kings XI Punjab registered their first victory in the IPL 2012.

Pune Warriors were bowled out for 115 runs with six balls to spare and Kings XI Punjab achieved the target by smashing 116 for the loss of mere two wickets in 17.4 overs.

Dimitri Mascarenhas (Kings XI Punjab) was declared ‘Player of the match’ for his destructive bowling in the encounter.

The 14th match of the Indian Premier League was played at Punjab Cricket Association Stadium, Mohali, Chandigarh, on April 12, 2012. The packed house supported their team, Kings XI Punjab, with their hearts out and the home crowd was rewarded with the triumph.

Earlier, the captain of Kings XI Punjab, Adam Gilchrist won the toss and asked Pune Warriors to show their power with the bat. Pune Warriors  were in trouble after losing three wickets for just 29 runs in 5.4 overs and the fourth wicket was lost after the addition of 22 runs in the score. Mithun Manhas came in next and held one end with determination and shared 26 runs partnership with Angelo Mathews who was gone for 11runs.

Robin Uthappa reached in the centre, joined with Manhas and the score board crept to 77 as the first lost his wicket for 17 off 16 balls with one four. Steven Smith associated 22 runs for the sixth wicket and left back for 13 and no other batsman was able to enter the double figures. Mithun Minhas was the eighth batsman who went back to the pavilion for 31 off 28 deliveries with one six and three fours as their innings was folded back on 115 runs with one over to spare.

Dimitri Mascarenhas was the lethal bowler who clinched five wickets, Harmeet Singh held two as Piyush Chawla claimed one wicket.

Kings XI Punjab suffered an early blow when Paul Valthaty was clean bowled by Ashok Dinda on the first ball of the innings. Shaun Marsh joined with the skipper Adam Gilchrist and managed 20 runs at the end of the fourth over. The runs rate was accelerated from the fifth over when Marsh dispatched a couple of fours and Gilchrist followed him in the next over.

The duo added 50 runs for the second wicket when Gilchrist was caught by Steven Smith off Angelo Mathews for 21 off 17 balls with three fours. The next wicket fell with the addition of 20 runs in the total as Piyush Chawla took the guards and Marsh kept concentrating at the other end. Both of them started their journey towards the target with odd boundaries every now and then.

Shaun Marsh achieved his fifty on the last ball of the 15th over by stealing a couple and gathered eight runs in the next over with a six. Chawla kept on attacking from the other end and earned a boundary on the fourth ball of the 18th over which brought the much needed glory for his team. Marsh was at the crease with 64 off 54 deliveries with one six and seven fours as Chawla was unbeaten for 21 off 24 with three fours.

Kings XI Punjab won the match with a huge margin of eight wickets with 14 balls to spare in the innings.
