India has suffered quite a few times in the ODIs because of its inefficient bowling in the death overs and the rival teams have benefitted by the weakness.
The Indian bowlers have given away 721 runs in the last 9 One Day Internationals at an average of 80.11 runs per match in the last 10 overs. The best bowling sides in the world restrict the opposite teams within 60 runs in the death overs which relieves the pressure from their batsmen.
India is currently visiting Sri Lanka and is involved in five ODI series. The Men in Blue are leading 2-1after the conclusion of the third match which was played on July 28, 2012, at Colombo. They gave away 97 runs in the last 10 overs and their batsmen fought well to win the match.
Gautam Gambhir, the prominent opener of India also criticised the Indian bowling in the death overs by saying,
“We didn’t bowl well in the last 10 overs. You look to restrict the last 10 to 60 or 70, 95 was too many.”
