West Indies 213 and 6-443 (Darren Bravo 210*, Kirk Edwards 59, Narsingh Deonarine 52, Ish Sodhi 2-130) leads New Zealand 9-609 declared (Ross Taylor 217*, Brendon McCullum 113, Tino Best 3-148) by 47 runs.

A classic maiden double hundred from the top order batsman of West Indies averted the danger of innings defeat for his team in the opening Test vs. New Zealand.

The Kiwis piled up 9-609 before declaring their first innings whereas the Caribbeans surrendered for 213 in the first, followed by 443 for the loss of six wickets in the second.

The fourth day’s play finished on Friday, December 6, 2013, at University Oval, Dunedin.

Earlier, the visitors went into bat in their second innings at 2-168 after 49 overs whereas Darren Bravo and Marlon Samuels were at the crease for 72 and 17. The latter was removed for 23, Shivnarine Chanderpaul was declared leg before wicket off Neil Wagner for just one and was replaced by Narsingh Deonarine. Bravo kept on consolidating at his end, punched his fifth Test century with a four and his partner was assisting him nicely at the other side.

Deonarine registered his fifth Test fifty with a boundary and the 122 runs partnership was broken at 307 when he was gone for 52. Darren Bravo kept on cruising bravely at his end with valuable associations at the other side and powered his first double ton in Test cricket. The skipper of the Windies, Darren Sammy enjoyed his stay at the wicket while adopting aggressive style. He was unbeaten for 44and Darren Bravo secured his end for 210 off 404 balls with 30 fours as the visitors reached 443 in 139 overs with four wickets remaining.

Ish Sodhi was the main wicket taker with two whereas Tim Southee, Trent boult, Neil Wagner and Corey Anderson shared one wicket each.

West Indies have avoided innings defeat and an addition of another 100-125 runs to the total can bring a surprising result in the game.
