The Windies are trailing 0-1 in the series and the Kangaroos are in possession of the Frank Worrell Trophy at the moment.

Australia won the exciting first Test by three wickets at Kensington oval, Bridgetown, Barbados, on April 11, 2012. West Indies declared their first innings at a mammoth total of 449 for the loss of 9 wickets which comprised an unbeaten blistering knock of 103 runs from the master crafter, Shivnarine Chanderpaul. The Australian captain, Michael Clarke made a bold decision by declaring their first innings with a deficit of 43 runs with one wicket in hand. The brave decision of Clarke paid off as the home side was scrambled at 148 runs in their second innings and the visitors achieved the target of 192 runs after losing seven wickets.

The second Test was played at Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain, Trinidad, on 15, 16, 17, 18 and 19, 2012 which ended in an interested draw mainly because of the rain interruption throughout the match. The Aussies were bowled out for 311 runs in their first innings and the innings of the Caribbeans was folded back for 257 runs as Chanderpaul missed his consecutive ton by just six runs.

Michael Clarke once again made a courageous decision by declaring second innings for 160 runs and offered the challenge to the hosts to chase the target in possible 59 overs. That could have been an interesting finish but the match had to be folded back after just 11 runs due to the fading light. West Indies were reeling at 13 for the loss of two wickets when Darren Sammy, their captain, took the challenge by promoting him up in the order. He dispatched unbeaten 30 runs by utilising just 26 deliveries assisted by one six and 4 fours.

The third Test will be important for West Indies as they have a fair chance of squaring the series by winning that encounter. Australia will anticipate winning the series by grasping the match as they have the potential to achieve that which has been accomplished  in the previous two Tests.

The selection committee of West Indies has included a young middle order batsman, Assad Fudadin as a possible replacement for the injured Kirk Edwards who was suffering from leg injury.

Assad Badyr Fudadin was born on August 1, 1985 in Guyana, a left hand batsman and right arm medium pace bowler. He has played for West Indies A, Guyana and West Indies Under-19’s and has been knocking at the doors of international cricket since long.

The 26 -year-old was the second highest run getter in the Regional Four Day Competetion, 2011-12. He smashed 576 runs at an excellent average of 48.00, the best of 108 assisted with two hundreds and three fifties. The youngster claimed six wickets averaging 25.83 runs per wicket with the best of 1-3 runs in an innings and 2-6 wickets in a match.

The Chairman of the West Indies Cricket Board selection panel, Clyde Butts hailed the capabilities of Fudadin and said,

“Fudadin has been a member of the West Indies A Team for a while now and we have seen signs of development and improvement. This year he batted well in the Regional 4-Day Tournament, and made over 500 runs including two centuries. He was very consistent in the middle-order. He can also bowl medium-pace and that is an asset.”
