South Africa 209-3 (Hashim Amla 88*, Richard Levi 37, Ziaur Rahman 1-28) beat Bangladesh 170-8 (Mushfiqur Rahim 50*, Mahmudullah 34, Robin Peterson 2-16) by 39 runs.
South Africa dispirited Bangladesh as Hashim Amla played a gem of an innings supported by the devastating bowling attack in the 2nd match of the T20, Tri Series.
The Proteas piled up 209 runs with seven wickets in hand at the end of the metered 20 overs and the Bengal Tigers managed 170 for the loss of 8 wickets.
Hashim Amla (South Africa) was declared ‘Player of the match’ for his aggressive unbeaten knock of 88 from just 53 deliveries.
The second match of the Zimbabwe Twenty20 Triangular Series was played on Tuesday, June 19, 2012, at Harare Sports Club.
Earlier, the captain of South Africa, Hashim Amla, won the toss and opened the innings with the promising Richard Levi. The latter started off incredibly by gathering 24 runs in the first two overs with a couple of sixes and three fours and rushed to 29 by the end of the next over. Amla joined him instantly and dispatched 5 fours until the end of the sixth over and both amassed 70 runs in 6.2 overs as Richard Levi was caught and bowled by Ziaur Rahman for 37 off 21 balls with 2 sixes and 6 fours.
Colin Ingram joined in next and added into his account 9 runs in the 10th over with a couple of fours as Hashim Amla achieved his fifty on the second ball of the 12th over with a six. Ingram was dropped on the fifth ball of the same over but found him short of the crease in the next over and lost his wicket for 29 off 22 deliveries with 5 fours. Albie Morkal became the next victim after scoring 22 runs as Jean-Paul-Duminy hammered 22 runs in the final over which comprised 1 six and 3 fours.
Amla was at the crease for 88 off 53 balls with 3 huge sixes and 9 fours as Duminy held the other end at 23 from 7 mere balls which included 1 six and 3 fours as South Africa powered 209 runs at the end of the 20th over.
Bangladesh faced an early setback by losing their first wicket for 19 runs in 2.3 overs when Jahurul Islam got together with Mohammad Ashraful who was adding useful runs supported by few boundaries. They took the score to 48 when Asharaful was caught smartly by Amla off Lonwabo Tsotsobe for 33 off 31 balls with 4 fours.
The wickets started crumbling and the Bengal Tigers were reeling at 49-4 in 9 overs when the skipper, Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah put their heads down and embarked towards prosperity. They tried to force the pace and both of them earned one six in the 10th and 12th over supported by few rolling boundaries. Mahmudullah changed his gears in the 14th over by clinching 16 runs with one six and even four.
The sixth wicket contributed 61 runs in 6.2 overs as Mahmudullah was caught at mid-off by Justin Ontong off Albie Morkel for 34 off 23 deliveries assisted with 2 sixes and 2 fours. Ziaur Rehman added 30 runs for the sixth wicket and was run out at his individual score of 18.
Mushfiqur Rahim went for a late assault and was able to get his fifty in the last over by getting 3 fours. He remained unbeaten for 50 from 32 balls with 1 six and 5 fours as Bangladesh could get 170 runs with two wickets in hand when the required quota of overs came to an end.
Robin Peterson and Marchant de Lange were the chief wicket takers with two each whereas Lonwabo Tsotsobe and Albie Morkal held one wicket each.
South Africa beat Bangladesh by a good margin of 39 runs and the latter is yet to win a match in the tournament.
