Virat Kohli led India to a smooth win vs. Bangladesh – Asia Cup 2014

India 4-280 (Virat Kohli 136, Ajinkya Rahane 73, Ziaur Rahman 1-20) beat Bangladesh 7-279 (Mushfiqur Rahim 117, Anamul Haque 77, Mohammed Shami 4-50) by six wickets.

The wonder boy of cricket, Virat Kohli, continued with his brilliant form and thrashed a brilliant ton which made things easy to clinch the ODI vs. Bangladesh.

The hosts were restricted to 279 for the loss of seven wickets in 50 overs and the visitors hammered 280 with six wickets in hand and one over to spare.

Virat Kohli (India) was declared ‘Player of the match’ for his match winning innings of 136.

The Asia Cup-2nd match was played on Wednesday, February 26, 2014, at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium, Fatullah.

Earlier, Virat Kohli, the skipper of the Blue Shirts, won the toss and offered the batting to the Bengal Tigers who lost two wickets at 49. The captain of the home side, Mushfiqur Rahim, got together with Anamul Haque who was attacking the ball at will. The latter went past his fifty in the 23rd over whereas the first kept on consolidating at the other end.

Mushfiqur Rahim attained his fifty and Anamul Haque was clean bowled by Varun Aaron for 77 as the score touched 182. The first took charge with a little assistance from the incoming batsmen and smashed his second ODI hundred in the 46th over. Mushfiqur Rahim was dismissed for 117 and the hosts reached 279 with three wickets remaining in 50 overs.

Mohammed Shami was the highest wicket taker with four whereas Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Varun Aaron and Ravichandran Ashwin shared one wicket each.

Rohit Sharma along with Shikhar Dhawan started the chase nicely by scoring 50 runs in 11.2 overs. Both of them went back to the pavilion for 21, 28 at 54 and were replaced by Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane. The first was the most attacking of the two and reached his 31st ODI half century in the 25th over. The duo kept on enhancing the runs and the second hundred of the innings was posted on board in the 37th one.

Virat Kohli powered his 19th ODI century on the 95th ball and Ajinkya Rahane got his fourth ODI half century in the process. Mushfiqur Rahim utilised eight balls to dislodge the partnership but was unable to get any success until 267 when Kohli was gone for 136 off just 122 deliveries with 2 lofty sixes and 16 fours. Rahane followed him five runs later for 73 but the Men in Blue dispatched 280 after losing four wickets and six balls still available.

Rubel hossain, Abdur Razzak, Ziaur Rahman and Sohag Gazi were the successful bowlers with one wicket each.

India triumphed in the encounter with a big margin of six wickets and secured four points.
