Hong Kong crushed Bangladesh

Hong Kong 8-114 (Munir Dar 36, Irfan Ahmed 34, Shakib Al Hasan 3-9) beat Bangladesh 108 (Shakib Al Hasan 34, Anamul Haque 26, Nadeem Ahmed 4-21, Nizakat Khan 3-19) by two wickets.

The minnows Hong Kong humiliated the hosts Bangladesh mainly because of a deadly bowling spell from the spinners duo of Nadeem Ahmed and Nizakat Khan.

The home side was bowled out for 108 mere runs with 21 balls to spare and the tourists hammered 114 with two wickets in hand in 19.4 overs.

Nadeem Ahmed (Hong Kong) was declared ‘Player of the match’ for his deadly spin bowling figures of 4-21.

The ICC World T20 – First Round match of Group A was played on Thursday, March 20, 2014, at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chittagong.

Earlier, Jamie Atkinson, the captain of Hong Kong, won the toss and invited the home side to bat first. The first two wickets went down at just three runs when Shakib Al Hasan and Anamul Haque tried to consolidate the innings. They took the score to 51 as the latter was clean bowled by Nadeem Ahmed for 26. The skipper of the Bengal Tigers, Mushfiqur Rahim, walked in the center while his partner continued playing his natural game. The score was enhanced to 85 when Shakib Al Hasan was gone for 34 and Mushfiqur Rahim followed him two runs later for 23. The rival bowlers penetrated through the middle and late order batting and the innings of the entire Bangladesh team was folded back for 108 in 16.3 overs.

Nadeem Ahmed was the star performer with four wickets, Nizakat Khan held three, Tanwir Afzal got two and Irfan Ahmed chipped in with one wicket.

Hong Kong lost their first wicket at 10 while Irfan Ahmed decided to attack and dispatched 3 towering sixes and even fours in the process. He was declared leg before wicket at 44 for 34 and the visitors were reeling at 5-50 in 9.1 overs. Munir Dar and Nizakat Khan associated in the center and crawled to 83 when the latter went back to the pavilion for 12. The match took an interesting turn when Munir Dar was held lbw off Abdur Razzak at 100 after scoring 36 off 27 with 1 six and 3 fours. Haseeb Amjad exhibited a breezy unbeaten knock of 12 off six balls, hit the winning six as the visitors piled up 8-114 with two balls available.

Shakib Al Hasan was the highest wicket taker with three, Mahmudullah claimed two whereas Al-Amin Hossain, Abdur Razzak and Sabbir Rahman shared one wicket each.

Hong Kong grabbed the encounter with a margin of two wickets however, Bangladesh qualified for the next round.
