West Indies A 6-279 (Jonathan Carter 133, Leon Johnson 39, Vinay Kumar 3-56) beat India A 224 (Yuvraj Singh 40, Unmukt Chand 38, Miguel Cummins 4-31, Nikita Miller 2-46) by 55 runs.
The young middle order batsman of West Indies A, Jonathan Carter, toyed with the bowling of India A with a ton as the tourists won the second unofficial ODI.
The Caribbeans A piled up 279 runs for the loss of six wickets in the allocated 50 overs whereas the Blue Shirts A surrendered at 224 with 8 balls still available.
The second unofficial One Day International was played on Tuesday, September 17, 2013, at M Chinnaswammy Stadium, Bangalore.
Earlier, Yuvraj Singh, the skipper of India A, won the toss and offered the batting to the rival team. The decision paid dividends when the visitors lost their openers for just 21 runs after 8.4 overs. Kirk Edwards and Jonathan Carter tried to consolidate the innings and the first hit 3 fours in the 11th over but the batsmen were unable to get any boundary in the next seven. Carter was dropped at six by Yusuf Pathan off Shahbaz Nadeem and the batsman responded with 5 fours in the coming overs. The third wicket partnership concluded at 100 in 27.1 overs when Edwards was gone for 36. Andre Russell hit 2 sixes, departed for 12 and was replaced by Leon Johnson in the center.
Jonathan Carter got two back to back fours, attained his fifty and kept on enhancing the score with regular boundaries. He tasted his first six in the 39th over and Johnson kept on securing his wicket at the other end. Carter thrashed his maiden List A hundred in the 44th over with 1 six and 1 four as the home bowlers were under fire from his willow. He accumulated 131 runs for the fifth wicket and was finally declared leg before wicket off Jaydev Unadkat for 133 off 132 balls with 3 skied sixes and 18 fours. Leon Johnson scored 39 while the Windies A hammered 6-279 after utilising 50 overs.
Vinay Kumar was the highest wicket taker with three, Yusuf Pathan held two and Jaydev Unadkat claimed one wicket.
India A had a horrible beginning after losing their two top order batsmen for just 18 runs in 6.2 overs. Yuvraj Singh joined in with Unmukt Chand who hit a couple of fours in the coming overs. The duo dispatched one six each and Yuvraj added 9 runs in the 20th over with 2 fours and the score was taken to 82 after 20.1 overs. Chand lost his wicket for 38 off 72 with 1 six and 3 fours and the incoming batsman, Kedar Jadhav, carried on with his business after arriving at the pitch.
The 27th over witnessed an addition of 10 runs with 2 fours as Nikita Miller struck twice in the next one. He removed Yuvraj Singh and Yusuf Pathan for 40 and 0 runs respectively and the hosts were reeling at 5-114 in 27.4 overs. Naman Ojha associated with Jadhav and they kept the score board moving with regular boundaries. Kedar Jadhav was caught behind by Devon Thomas off Miguel Cummins at 148 at his personal score of 35 off 38 deliveries with 5 fours. Ojha was clean bowled for 34 and Shahbaz Nadeem secured his end with 21 as the entire India A team was bowled out for 224 in 48.4 overs.
Miguel Cummins was the supreme bowler with four wickets, Jonathan Carter and Nikita Miller shared two each whereas Andre Russell and Ashley Nurse got one wicket each.
West Indies A clinched the second unofficial One Day International by a margin of 55 runs and levelled the three match series at 1-1. The third and final encounter will be played at the same venue on September 19, 2013.
