Rajasthan Royals win vs. Delhi Daredevils

Rajasthan Royals 1-155 (Ajinkya Rahane 63*, Rahul Dravid 53, Siddarth Kaul 1-23) beat Delhi Daredevils 4-154 (Ben Rohrer 64*, Mahela Jayawardene 34, Stuart Binny 1-3) by nine wickets.

Ajinkya Rahane and Rahul Dravid provided an over a hundred runs match winning opening stand against Delhi Daredevils who lost another match in the IPL 2013.

Delhi Daredevils scored 154 runs for the loss of four wickets in the allotted 20 overs and Rajasthan Royals plundered 155 with nine wickets in hand and 13 balls still remaining.

Ajinkya Rahane (Rajasthan Royals) was declared ‘Player of the match’ for his superb unbeaten knock of 63 off 45 balls.

The 52nd match of the Indian Premier League was played on Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur.

Earlier, Mahela Jayawardene, the captain of Delhi Daredevils, won the toss and opened the innings with Virender Sehwag. The poor form of Sehwag continued as he lost his wicket for 11 and the next batsman, Muralidharen Gautam, followed him after scoring just two runs. David Warner got together with Jayawardene and they hit 4 fours in the fifth over and the first was gone at 47 in 7.3 overs for 13. Ben Rohrer walked in next and tried to consolidate the innings with Jayawardene and added 15 runs in the 11th over with 3 fours.

Jayawardene hit the first six of the innings on the fourth ball of the next over but was caught by Rahul Dravid off Siddharth Trivedi for 34 with 1 six and 4 fours. Kedar Jadhav and Rohrer kept the score board moving with occasional boundaries as the latter hit 2 consecutive fours in the 17th over. Ben Rohrer completed his fifty, two overs later, with another 2 fours followed by 1 six and 1 four in the final over. He remained unbeaten for 64 off 40 deliveries with 1 six and 9 fours and Jadhav was at the other end for 23 as Delhi Daredevils reached 154 with six wickets intact.

James Faulkner, Shane Watson, Stuar Binny and Siddharth Trivedi were the successful bowlers with one wicket each.

The skipper of Rajasthan Royals, Rahul Dravid came in to start the proceedings for his side along with Ajinkya Rahane and they scored 27 runs in the first four overs. Rahane was dropped at four by Pawan Negi off Morne Morkel in the next over and the duo added four boundaries in the coming overs. They kept the score board running with regular boundaries and Rahul Dravid smashed his half century in the 13th over. The openers gave a solid partnership of 108 in 13.4 overs when Dravid was caught by Ajit Agarkar off Siddarth Kaul for 53 scored on 48 balls with 7 fours.

Shane Watson joined in next with Ajinkya Rahane who attained his fifty in the 15th over as Watson scored 13 runs in the same over with 2 fours. They picked up the run rate, both of them dispatched a six each in the 17th over and Rahane scored the winning run on the fifth ball of the following over. Ajinkya Rahane secured his end with 63 off 45 with 1 six and 5 fours, Shane Watson scored 28 from 14 comprising 1 six and 3 fours as Rajasthan Royals powered 155 runs in 17.5 overs.

Rajasthan Royals clinched the match with a huge margin of nine wickets and hold the third position on the table with 16 points from 12 games.
