Chennai Super Kings 4-186 (Suresh Raina 100*, Michael Hussey 35, Parvinder Awana 2-29) beat Kings XI Punjab 6-171 (Shaun Marsh 73, David Miller 51*, Dwayne Bravo 3-34) by 15 runs.
Suresh Raina punched an unbeaten herculean century and Dwayne Bravo grabbed three wickets in the final over as Chennai Super Kings demolished Kings XI Punjab.
Chennai Super Kings piled up 186 runs for the loss of just four wickets in the allotted 20 overs and Kings XI Punjab was restricted to 6-171.
Suresh Raina (Chennai Super Kings) was announced ‘Player of the match’ for his masterly innings of 100 from 53 balls.

Earlier, MS Dhoni, the captain of Chennai Super Kings, won the toss and elected to bat first at his home wicket. Wriddhiman Saha and Michael Hussey came into bat and the first hit 12 runs in the third over with 1 six and 1 four but was gone after scoring 18 in the next over. Suresh Raina walked in next and the score was taken to 55 after 9 overs as he added 12 runs with two boundaries in the 10th. Hussey opened his arms by adding 10 runs in the 11th over and became the second victim at 82 in 11.1 overs after scoring 35 runs. Dhoni ran himself out for just two runs as Albie Morkel got together with Raina.
The run rate was picked up by the two batsmen as Raina reached his fifty in the 15th over and dispatched two sixes and even fours in the coming overs as Morkel hit his first six in the 17th over. The fourth wicket partnership enhanced the score to 166 in 18.3 overs when Albie Morkel was caught by David Miller off Awana for 23. Suresh Raina blasted his hundred on the third ball of the last over with a grand six and remained unbeaten for 100 off 53 mere comprising 6 giant sixes and 7 fours. Chennai Super Kings hammered 186 with six wickets in hand at the close of the 20th over.
Parvinder Awana was the top wicket taker with two whereas Piyush Chawla claimed one.
Kings XI Punjab lost their first wicket at 13 as Shaun Marsh joined in with Mandeep Singh who was dropped at 7 by Dwayne Bravo off Mohit Sharma. Marsh hit 3 fours in the following overs as Mandeep Singh was gone for 15 and was replaced by their skipper, David Hussey. The flow of runs was maintained by the batsmen as Marsh and Hussey added 4 fours until the 10th over. The third wicket association enhanced the score to 73 in 10.3 overs when David Hussey was caught by Bravo off Ravichandran Ashwin for 22.
David Miller appeared in the center next as Marsh punished Suresh Raina for 17 runs that included 2 back to back sixes and 1 four. Miller hit the first six of his innings in the 13th over and Shaun Marsh completed his half century in the next over with a four. The duo accumulated 23 runs in the 16th and the following over with 4 fours as the visitors required 30 runs to win from the last 12 deliveries which was reduced to 19 in the last six balls. Shaun Marsh was clean bowled by Dwayne Bravo on the first ball of the final over for 73 off just 51 with 2 big sixes and 8 fours. David Miller achieved his fifty on the third delivery as Bravo ended up with three wickets in the 20th over while giving away just 3 runs. Warner was still at the crease with 51 off 26 with 2 lofty sixes and 5 fours as Kings XI Punjab managed 171 after losing six wickets.
Dwayne Bravo was the champion bowler with three wickets, Mohit Sharma held two whereas Ravichandran Ashwin got one wickets.
Chennai Super Kings won the encounter by 15 runs, maintained their supremacy in the IPL 2013 and have climbed to 18 points after 11 games.
