Amit Mishra led India to a stunning win – 5th ODI vs. Zimbabwe

India 3-167 (Ajinkya Rahane 50, Ravindra Jadeja 48*, Shikhar Dhawan 41, Kyle Jarvis 2-18) beat Zimbabwe 163 (Sean Williams 51, Hamilton Masakadza 32, Amit Mishra 6-48) by seven wickets.

A deadly spin bowling spell by Amit Mishra laid a strong foundation for another scintillating victory for India who clean swept the series 5-0 vs. Zimbabwe.

The home side surrendered for 163 after availing 39.5 overs and the visitors achieved the target by thrashing 167 runs with seven wickets in hand and 16 overs to spare.

Amit Mishra (India) was declared ‘Player of the match’ for his hostile slow bowling in the game.

The fifth and final One Day International of the series was played on Saturday, August 3, 2013, at Queens Sports Club, Bulawayo.

Virat Kohli won the toss for the Blue Shirts and invited the hosts to bat first. The decision paid the dividends when Zimbabwe lost their three top order batsmen for 37 runs in 12.2 overs. Sean Williams got together with Hamilton Masakadza who was doing most of the scoring at his end. The later became the fifth casualty when he was clean bowled by Ravindra Jadeja for 32 off 46 balls with 4 fours.

The home side was struggling at 5-72 after 22.1 overs as Elton Chigumbura walked in the park. The batsmen added 5 fours in the coming overs and took the score beyond the hundred runs mark. Sean Williams attained his 14th ODI fifty in the 33rd over while Elton Chigumbura was declared leg before wicket off Amit Mishra for 17 as the total touched 122. Williams became the 8th victim for 51 off 65 with 6 fours as the entire Zimbabwean side was bowled out for 163 with 10.1 overs remaining.

Amit Mishra was the star performer with six wickets whereas Mohit Sharma, Jaydev Unadkat, Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Shami shared one wicket each.

India had an awkward beginning as the stumps of Cheteshwar Pujara were dislodged by Kyle Jarvis without any run on board. Ajinkya Rahane associated with Shikhar Dhawan who hit 3 fours in the fourth over and accumulated another 12 runs two overs later with 1 six and 1 four. They took the score to 55 in 10.3 overs as Dhawan was caught behind by the Zimbabwean skipper, Brendan Taylor, off Jarvis for 41 off just 38 deliveries with 1 six and 4 fours. Ravindra Jadeja along with Rahane did not panic and kept on creeping towards the target with the assistance of odd boundaries.

The score crossed the hundred runs figure in the 23rd over and Ajinkya Rahane attained his third Test half century in the 27th one. He was sent back to the pavilion from Malcolm Waller for 50 off 66 with 1 six and 4 fours. Dinesh Karthik was the next batsman in but most of the runs were posted on board by Jadeja who punished Williams for 10 runs in the 29th over with 1 six and 1 four. The Men in Blue rushed to 3-167 in 34 overs whereas Jadeja and Karthik secured their end for 48 and 10 runs respectively.

India clean swept the series after demolishing Zimbabwe with a clear margin of 5-0.
